SED Graders’ oyster sorting machines are well represented in South Australia, with the state’s farmers making up almost 20% of our Australian customer base. For a number of years we have been discussing opening a service centre in the South Australian region with the view to reducing service time and increasing physical and technical support for our customers operating in South Australia and surrounding areas. When Hamish Brown, one of our service technicians, informed us that he was contemplating a move to Adelaide for family reasons, the opportunity quickly materialised and we put the wheels in motion to open a sales and service facility that could close this loop in our operation.

With Hamish now established in Adelaide, we are pleased to announce the opening of our new facility servicing South Australia and Western Australia.

Key customer benefits

Our oyster sorting machines are designed to sort up to 14,000 sale sized oysters every hour and close to double that for juveniles. Each oyster adds to the bottom line profit of every farm, but sorting each oyster is a painstaking task. Our machines carry a huge load in this part of the oyster farming process and we know that having our sorting machines working at full capacity is vital to the viability of the farm.

Adelaide can service much of the mainland’s central and western coastlines for critical hands-on technical support, spare parts, repair, replacement and maintenance works. Traditionally, this arm of SED Graders’ service has needed to originate from our headquarters in Tasmania. Adelaide’s closer proximity, coupled with reduced uncertainty due to border closures that may occur during the COVID-19 crisis, means a lot less operational downtime, faster delivery and vastly improved turnaround times on breakdown.
